Environmanetal standards for public housing in Balearic Islands


In general, environmental assesment for the determination of criteria of greater sustainability for housing projects of public promotion and, in particular, environmental optimisation of a project of a multi-family building of public promotion.

Figueras, C. Rodríguez and A. Tailor) / Work status: final reports in the drafting phase.


Work done

Technical-environmental advice dedicated to the IVABI technical team for the incorporation of criteria and recommendations on reducing energy, water and materials consumption, as well as reducing waste generation and CO2 emissions in the life cycle of buildings. These criteria were determined from the experience in architecture projects in the area and also from the study and determination of improvement options in the development of the basic and executive project of the multi-family building of Vilafranca de Bonany, mainly in the phases of production of materials, transportation and use of the building.



Both, in Vilafranca de Bonany building, in energy demand design criteria were determined on solar protections, carpentry, natural ventilation, use of sanitary chambers and energy recovery of the renewal air.

Regarding efficiency increase, a technical and economic study was carried out, comparing conventional installations, concerning to biomass, Canadian wells and energy recovery. Regarding materials, recommendations on local origin, transport, biosphere and recycled products were determined. A technical and economic study was carried out comparing conventional structure and enclosures with respect to wood, as well as alternatives for the main construction subsystems. In water, technical recommendations on saving mechanisms, systems for the use of rainwater and grays, including natural treatment, were analysed and determined.
