The nave 8 of Can Batlló will host the new Archive of the City of Barcelona

Last May 29th, the award resolution of the new Barcelona City Archive was announced, will be located at nave number 8 of  Can Batlló old textile factory, in the neighbourhood of La Bordeta.

The awarded project is called “Àgora”, and it was formulated by  OP Team Arquitectura in consortium with M. Partida Architecture and Design Ramon Valls. The proposal is based on the recuperation of the building’s original elements and it has been cataloged as a cultural asset of local interest and combines the uses as an archive, but also as a neighbouring, cultural and divulgation meeting point, with an articulation of spaces through a 1,500 m2 hall.

Societat Orgànica has participated in the contest phase and will be part of the project team, carrying out the environmental assessment tasks and building energy certification. It is expected that the building will minimise its energy consumption by using its passive potential, wit the introduction of bio-climatic elements, like perimeter galleries and courtyards to enhance ventilation and natural light. The remaining energy consumption will be covered with renewable energies sources, like solar photovoltaic and geothermal.
